28. A little vacation.

Hello all! I'm interrupting my slight hiatus to give an update. Easter Sunday was atypical for me, my parents were in town and I flew out of province! I flew into Halifax with an aunt of mine, P, to visit another aunt, D, for a little over a week.

We left Monday for Bangor and stayed a couple of nights, some serious shopping took place. Outlets and other American stores I can't get back home are so addictive and easy to spend money in (I'm looking at you, Express). I'm back in Moncton now, at D's house, for a few days. P left this morning so we're having a lazy day of things. 5 days straight of shopping can really do you in. Or in my case, fill my suitcase to the brink of stuffed. I wasn't completely done but I think I might have to be.

I think that's it for now. I have very few pictures from the trip, shopping isn't the best for photos sometimes. Especially when neither aunt is very sure using the DSLR. Hoping to get a few more pics before I leave, but no new outfit shots yet. It's packed in very tight and staying there til I reach NL again. I'll get back to regular posting by next Friday, as I'm still here til Wednesday. So many pretty clothes to show. If I can manage to get a few minutes in the next couple days I'll post my Project 52, not within the schedule but still done!

Til next time!

27. I think it's spring.

Finally another OOTD post. Blogger is not agreeing with me today so the formatting is probably off. I'm flying out tonight to NB to visit my aunt for a few days. Lots of shopping to be done! Maybe a haul post when I back...I will be going to H&M after all.

So this is an outfit from my last week of work! I think this was Wednesday. It was so nice. I got a chance to wear my pink trench from Old Navy. So bright and happy. Will definitely be wearing this lots during the summer.

trench - ON / cropped cardigan - stitches, 2007 / dress - samuel & co / belt - made by mom :) / flats - clarks

this one's just for fun. taking pictures in my driveway, pretty sure guy in mini was staring at the weird neighbour girl.

Here's a close-up. I'm caring less about the weird looks from people! Yay! I really love this dress, it's so simple and multifunctional. And it was on sale, and a gift. Always a good combination! Hoping to have another OOTD post up before I leave, blogging discreetly around family is not an easy task.

Til next time!

Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Inspiration

Inspiration - Since I wasn't involved in FBFF a year ago, this will be my first time answering these questions, but they're the first set so I'm told! Inspiration can come from anywhere and I'm finding myself getting more inspired by, well, everything!

1. Which celebrity (celebrities) do you look to for fashion inspiration?

I don't know if I follow any certain celebrities for inspiration. I like a lot of pieces that some of them wear, but it can be so varied that there's not really any certain celebrity I look to. As I've shown in some of my previous posts, I look more to TV characters for inspiration. Grey's, Gossip Girl, Mad Men, and OTH have all had an impact on my style, but not the celebrity as much as their character.

2. When it comes to your own personal style, what inspires you? I would like to think that my closet inspires me, but sometimes that's not true. It kinda sucks sometimes (my closet, that is) but I'm working on it. I think seeing other bloggers probably inspires me the most, and some fashion magazines or websites like Instyle and Glamour. My style is pretty basic and simple but I like seeing different combinations of patterns or colors like the spring/summer trends.

 3. How do you hope to inspire your readers?

I'd hope that anyone reading my blog might be inspired by my photography firstly. I know my outfits aren't all that interesting or innovative, but I try to do my best to make them blog-worthy. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm trying to say with my blog. If someone finds inspiration through what I say or the pictures I take, I feel like at least someone is getting something from it!

4. Outside the realm of fashion who/what inspires you?

Photography, completely. And music. And my friends and family. There are so many things that inspire me on a day to day basis. Baking too. I love to create things for the people I love and I get a lot of that inspiration from blogs too haha.

5. Which songs inspire you?
Oh God. This could be long. There are many for different reasons, here's a few of my favourites!

Delicate by Damien Rice. Drool.

Memory by Sugarcult. An old favourite.

Who's That Chick - for dancing and partyingggg.

Coldplay - Yellow. I disliked them when they first came out, I loved them once I listened!

Project 52: Week 16

Week 16: Furry Friends. Now they've made me a photo repeater. Lovely. This one's pretty self-explanatory, and I don't have any other pets. I have had several but Em's the cutest. I wanted to do a comparison of my puppy from when she was little to now, but didn't think of it til I got back in town. Oh well.

Slightly annoyed at me. I believe I had toast that I wouldn't share. She likes to be fed, clearly. Or maybe it was the giant camera pointing at her...I never know.

26. I love being fed at work.

Another week over and I'm just as useless as ever. I finish work tomorrow, thus the being fed at lunch for the next two days. I love free food. I can't believe 4 months is over.

Since it's Wednesday and I still feel like crap (stupid flu), I figured another link-filled post was appropriate. This week is photography, some of my favourite photos and links to many photos. And yes, the first two are shameless plugs for Newfoundland. So sue me. It's a beautiful place! Many wonderful photo opportunities :D

Hope you all enjoy these again, be sure to leave any favourites of your own! Now, off to discovering!

You'll get to know this about me, I'm an incredibly random person sometimes. Don't you just love the NL dogs? So sweet, so drooly, but so cuddlyyyy. The drool is worth it.

Project 52: Week 15

Week 15: How others see you. This one is a little touchy for me sometimes. I definitely have a different perception of myself than others do. I wonder who's right?

25. My weekend so far.

Hello all! Hope your weekend has been as relaxed as mine! Hoping to put an OOTD post up sometime this week, once I get back into taking pics! I've got some planned post writing to do over the next week, I'm going on a little vacay out of province soon. Haven't been off the island in a while and I'm going stir crazy.

In the mean time, here's a few snaps from my weekend. Project 52 for this week and next should be up tomorrow, I get really bad with deadlines when the weekend comes lol.

Best part about kid's birthday parties? The junk food.

The little miss's cake.
Teabags left on the counter to cool. <3
just out of the oven cinnamon pull apart bread.
The pull apart bread is glorious. Me and my mom made it, but used less sugar. I'd stick with the recipe but it still tastes really good. Via Joy the Baker, found through stumbleupon. I told you it was good! I'm off to enjoy the rest of my time home, pan fried cod for supper. Nom! Loves!

Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Gratitude

This week is an interesting topic - gratitude. I'm so happy to now be a part of FBFF as it celebrates its one-year anniversary! Gratitude is something I think everyone needs to have in blogging and in life in general. We might not always remember it, but times like today give us a chance to give recognition!

source: trackingweb.com

1. When it comes to be personally – I owe a lot of who I am to: My parents. They raised me and they continue to support the poor student that I am! I couldn't be who I am without them, I learned so much from both of them. My mom is definitely my biggest influence, she's helped me through things in realizing that I should be kind to myself and not let others knock me down. I love them both so much!

2. When it comes to be professionally – I owe a lot of who I am to: I am not fully developed or grown when it comes to professional life. Being that I'm still in the process of my degree, I have a lot of learning left to do. I've had some really great teachers and profs who've helped me, but none really stands out. They've all helped me in some way, some to show me how things should be done and others to show me how I should not be at all.

3. When it comes to the art of blogging, I’m grateful to these people for helping me through some rough spots: There's a few bloggers who I think have helped me, not only in how I should post but in just responding and letting me know I'm doing something good here. Kileen of Cute and Little and Tiffany of A Reason To Be Fabulous stand out as two bloggers that really helped me feel like someone cared about what I was writing. They're both so great at what they do and I feel like I could ask them both for help if I needed it! There's lots of other bloggers who I've seen that do lots of posts and give advice on how to improve, but those two seem to stand out for me personally.

4. One blogging challenge I’m grateful happened because it made me stronger was… realizing that I don't have to be strict on my posting. I am mainly posting on this blog for myself, and not having as many readers or views as I want really puts that into perspective. Seeing that people are coming to read my blog not just because of what I think I should post but what I really enjoy writing is changing the way I think too. I think I want to focus more on the lifestyle aspect of things as opposed to fashion blogging. It seems more natural to me.

5. To my readers, I’d like to say… Thank you for existing! I'm so happy that people take time to read my blog, whether its as a follower or just because you stumble on it from another site! Thank you for making me feel like someone out there is listening, because in this great big blogging world a person really need that sometimes. Thank you all so much :) And thank you for helping me hit 1000 page views! Yay!

That was a little sappier than I thought it would be! I haven't even been blogging that long lol. Oh well, I guess that's just how I am lately. So, here's to all of you that read or blog or have helped me along the way. Thank you!

Hoping to get a Project 52 post up today, but likely no OOTD this weekend. I'm home for a few days and enjoying the relaxation. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Til next time!

24. A little mix of everything

I love looking through link lists of other blogs. I have found so many wonderful things to read and see, that I figured I should do one every now and then. Being that I'm addicted to stumbleupon, I have many random things I love. I was thinking of just putting together random links, but I want to theme them. It's easier for me to organize this way, since I've got well over 200 stumbles favourited.

This week I'm focusing on hopeful and thoughtful and adorable and informative. Words that make your heart hurt or make you think. A lot of lists, I like reading those. Most of these are my stumbles with a few links from favourite bloggers thrown in. Take a minute to check them out, you won't be disappointed!

A couple of these annoy me, but interesting read nonetheless.

This one is pretty cheesy, but some of it's just so sweet.

So happy searching! Hope you like my compilation, I plan on doing it regularly. I fnd too much cool stuff to keep it to myself. Any links to share? Comment below!

23. Following the norm.

A packed weekend. I'm still recovering so this is gonna be short. Too tired for words right now. Here's some outfits from earlier this week!

blazer - j.crew / tunic - unknown / leggings - dynamite
This tunic is one of my favourites. I got it, I think, in Europe. But I don't remember where. I think it was France, on an EF trip. But it might have been Florida. It's foreign, anyways. I love the blazer in this, but I feel like something's off about it. It might be too long? I'm not sure.

cardi - tommy / shirt - f21 / mexx skirt / booties - naturalizer / scarf - old navy
A staple outfit for me. I took many other pictures which I mostly liked, but the tights and slim shirt combination gave me lots of lumps. You can see them in the right picture, but that was the best one. I love this skirt but it has the same problems as all pencil skirts do for me. I have to size up to fit my hips right, so there's gaping at the waist. Unhappy, but I wear and love them all the same.

Hoping my recovery goes well, partying is not so easy for me clearly. I feel old. An early night tonight.

Project 52: Week 14

see any shapes? I think I just see blobs of plaster goo.

A slightly strange picture and a slightly different post. This week's theme was Fusion. I had a few ideas that didn't work, so last minute it was! This is the current state of my living room wall, being fused into a flat surface after being covered with plaster. It will be painted. I cannot wait for that day.

Off to bed for me! Long day tomorrow followed by intense partying with my bestie. So very excited, but I definitely need to prepare myself. If I survive I'll post again soon!

Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Spring Trends

As I began to write this post, I realized something: I am never up on trends.

I love style blogs and looking through magazines but I could not name a single trend for spring offhand (except florals, which doesn't really count because it's spring, duh). After some searching and some polyvore matching, I've found the best trends I am going to try to wear for the next four months! That is, if I ever see a temperature on the plus side again. We had one freak day earlier the week and today it's snowing again. I fear a prolonged winter. I don't want more cold.

Aren't they all dreamy? From top right;
  • Sheer Layers
  • Citrus colors
  • LBD
  • Florals
  • Lady-like/ballerina
That last skirt needs to be mine. I'm seriously loving pink right now but I think a bright blue dress would also be a lovely addition to my closet. I can't wait for summer and it's light fabrics and warm temperatures. Off to dream of beaches! Head over to Modly Chic to see everyone else's take on spring!

22. Out of order.

Since I meant to post OOTD's from last week on Sunday and Monday, I had two posts ready. I ended up posting Monday anyways and forgot about the other post. Today seems good enough, right?

Out of order this week I suppose. I'll still have my Project 52 and FBFF for Friday. I feel weird not following a schedule, it keeps me in line. A one-off for this week I guess. Here they are!
top - Zara / black tank - f21 / pants - espirit / shoes - clarks

cute details on the shoulders

The above outfit is one I've been saving for a while. A cousin of mine picked it up in Spain from Zara, which I've now realized I love dearly. Still have the option of ordering online and sending it to her, but I want to go to Madrid and see the store in person! Big dreams, I kn

wrap cardi - garage, 06? / le sac dress - aa / tights - walmart / heels (not pictured) - naturalizer

This is my "press-release-for-program-oh-my-god-what-do-I-wear" outfit. It worked out well. A little short for work but I get away with it. I have a lot of leg and apparently covering those legs with tights evens out the short? Maybe. I probably wouldn't do it again. And I'm in love with this dress, but I haven't worn it any other ways. It's convertible and very useful, but I get stumped. Oh well. I'll try the less covered up versions in the summer.

And off for another exciting day of work. I've nearly finished my work report, final read-through on it today and then binding and passing in! Yay! A few days early even! So happy it's done.

Til next time!

21. And a new laptop to begin the week.

So, my laptop has just about crapped out. I had taken enough OOTD pictures for two outfit posts. I did good last week! Anyways, turns out my laptop decided I shouldn't be posting yesterday. It stopped working on Saturday, when a trojan virus of some sort took over. Yeah, that was fun. Luckily my parents were in town, my mother calmed me down and we went looking for a new one. Bought it yesterday, ridiculously on sale and I picked it up today. HP dv6. I'm still getting used to the keyboard so the backspace button is getting lots of use.

Anyways here's a couple days from last week!

cardi - h&m / polo dress - aa / tights - walmart / shoes - clarks

I am so in love with this polo dress. Like, so so in love. I bought it on sale online and I'm trying to get more, but all the colors are too pale. My current obsession with purple extends to all shades :)

shirt - smart set / pants - mexx / cardi - old navy / shoes - clarks

A slightly more mediocre outfit, but comfy and work appropriate all the same. Same shoes, though they're buried in the snow. I have a hard time finding button-downs that fit, they're always too loose especially in the waist. Love this color of red too.

And off to fill myself with lemon pie! I love my mommy :)

Til next time!

Project 52: Week 13

Project 52 this week was "Just for Fun"! Lots of different options for this, and clearly the posting on Thursday thing isn't working out. I'll settle for Saturday? Haha. I have several pictures that I could use, but this one takes the cake. It's terrible. So so bad. But if it makes someone laugh at my ridiculousness, that will do.

Click on through for the hilarity...really, it's worth it.

Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Rules of Engagement

Like Katy said in her introduction to this week, there's a lot of trial and error when dealing with other bloggers. What should you do or not do? It seems like there's so many options for how to behave that the standards can get a little fuzzy sometimes.

credit: puttingonthefoil.com

1. Guest posts are a good way to gain new exposure. What do you think is the appropriate way to go about securing a guest spot?
I've never even thought of trying to get a guest post on a blog. Honestly, I think it should be the blog-owner who gives the option first. Asking someone to post your words on their blog can have many consequences, good and bad. I think it has to be someone that fits in with your overall feel, or has some similar attributes to make the most seem like it belongs. I would love to do guest posts on many blogs, but I wouldn't feel right asking someone to let me post.

2. Leaving comments is essential to growing your blog. But how can you leave a comment without coming across as ‘Follow Me. Follow Me!’?
It can be difficult, because I'm always trying to get people to visit my blog. But again, I don't want to be pushy. Mainly I just leave my blog address in the comment, and hope that the blog owner will take the time to have a look. I always try to comment back on the blogs of people who write on mine, it's a reciprocal loop for me. I leave comments on many blogs, and many of them go unnoticed which I can understand. If I see a person has not commented back or replied continually if I have left multiple comments on multiple posts, I will consider unfollowing. It's a big thing to appreciate the people who read your blog, no matter how long it takes.

3. We’ve all gotten a mass email at one time or another asking for blog exposure, a link exchange, etc… But the mass emails don’t work. How do you make your email stand out from the crowd?
This one I'm still working on. I haven't tried emailing any blog owners, I stick to trying to spread the word through comments. Don't even know how I would send a mass email, it seems like it would be so time consuming!

4. In interacting with other bloggers where do you draw the line between seeking support and begging for exposure?
I will not beg. I will leave my blog address for them to look at, I will comment and follow their blog if it's something that appeals to me, but I don't see any point in begging for people to look at my blog. It's something that seems desperate, the way that giveaways can sometimes be. If there's a genuine reason for hosting a giveaway for your readers, then that's great! But if you're just trying to get more followers it seems a little hopeless. That's just my opinion, I know not everyone will agree.

5. What’s one rule of engagement error you made and how have you remedied that? I thought that just because someone commented they would follow my blog, or that by leaving my URL I would get a million more hits. I'm realizing how much work it takes to really grow a blog. For now I'm fine being small, but if the time ever comes when I want to expand I'm starting to understand the work I'll have to put in.

So those are my answers! Anything you agree or disagree on, or think I should reconsider my views on things? Let me know!

Til next time!
