Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Summer Trends

This week's FBFF is summer trends, what I'm most looking forward to wearing when the weather gets warm! Unfortunately for me, if you've been reading my last few posts you'll know the weather isn't cooperating. We've just ended Fogageddon 2011 - 116 hours of fog with visibility less than 3 km. It makes for great ambiance with the historic downtown center, but not so fun when you can't remember what the sun looks like. The fog lifted a little yesterday but came back last night, of course.

So, summer trends! I never claim to be much up on trends, but I try to wear things that always fit in with whatever's popular. Here's my choices! Blogger is being an asshole currently, so if things are formatted wrong I tried my hardest!

1. Bright neon nail polish: I've got a little confession; in the past 3 months or so I've become obsessed with nail polish and nail blogs. I love all the colors and bright designs. I'm pretty useless at doing anything other than basic polish on myself, so I try to go for the brightest colors I can! My new favourites are CG Strawberry Fields, a gorgeous medium pink with gold shimmer, and CG Shocking Pink, pictured below. Such a bright neon pink, makes me feel so summery!

2. Everything pink: So, clearly my nails are loving the pink trend, but it's slowly filtering into all of my closet as well. I am looovviinnggg all of the bright pink happy clothes that's happening! It's such a cute flirty color to wear in any shade. Plus it looks good on my extra pale skin. Always a bonus.

3. White jeans: This one I can't vouch for wearing myself, but I definitely want to find a pair. I love the clean crisp look of white jeans with a casual striped tee or dressed up with a bright patterned shirt. If I had them they would not be staying white for very long though, thus my avoiding of this great trend.

4. Chambray shirt/dress: I love the look of chambray or denim-look dresses. I know they've been popular for a while but I still love the casual yet put together look of them. I was so close to having this one. I saw so many cute dresses at H&M when I was in NB, and didn't buy them. I still don't remember why...

5. Longer length skirts: Midi skirts have been calling out to me since I first saw the expanding trend. I want one so bad, but I can't find any in my area and I'm a little wary of buying online. I'd definitely have to make sure it looks as good as I want it to!

There's my list! Anything you agree or disagree with? Let me know! Head on over to Modly Chic to check out everyone else's answers!

Til next time!

37. I heart Sheldon Cooper.

shirt - delia's / jeans - guess / tank - urban planet?

I love Sheldon. I've become hopelessly addicted to Big Bang, and I try to make everyone that I can love it as much as me. Boyfriend now has two seasons and a somewhat matching t-shirt. I found this when I was in Bangor at Delia's. How could I say no? It's Sheldon's catch phrase and so so good. I bought a Mario shirt for my bestie at the same time, so I got it semi-on-sale. Which means I definitely couldn't leave it behind.

This wasn't from today, I am sad to say. I'm a bit behind on outfit posts, but I like having a few ready to post. I don't do it every day since I don't wear things that are bloggable every day. Yesterday, case and point, was a study day and consisted of sweatpants and hoodies. That said, they're expensive & well-fitting sweatpants, but you don't want to see that, do you? (and they're not lululemon. I actually don't own one piece of clothing from there. strange? maybe...but Boyfriend is trying to wear me down. he's got a sweater and says I should have one too. Maybe I'll give in, maybe not) I'll assume no and keep trying to dress better despite my non-summer I'm having. Here's hoping for hot!!!

I had to post another picture. This is my super howl-y neighbour dog. One of them. Two basset hounds, super fat but annoying. Except when they waddle out and start being fat and cute. Then I melt a little. I like wrinkly dogs.

Project 52: Week 19 & 20

Almost caught up! I only have this week's picture left to takeeee. Yayyyyy.

Week 19: Window Light. Car wash in my Dad's new antique. Sounds better than new old car. I love how the foam splatters on, did not love how the windows leak slightly though. I guess that's what happens when the car is a '77.

Week 20: Spring Fever. This is from a OOTD session a few weeks back, but this epitomizes spring/summer for me. My parents were in, and my mother did laundry and took advantage of the clothesline. This to me means that spring is here, and summer is on the way. Memories like this, of bedsheets hanging full length from my mother's line at home, are all throughout my childhood. Plus, I love her for doing my laundry!!!

All caught up now :) Tomorrow I'll be posting the coming week, Need for Speed! I wonder what I'll be capturing this week...

34. Lazy Sunday

I love 3-day weekends. Did I mention I have them all the time? I should probably do homework, or blog, or at least do something productive with that extra day. I decided to drink instead, and therefore used my extra day to recover! I think that counts as productivity. Maybe.

Here's an outfit from earlier this week. This is another new addition to my closet, bought by my Aunt for me. I'm loving the ultra-preppy look lately. I think it works on me for some reason. This one's from Tommy.

I love how my backyard looks summery, even if the sun refuses to shine sometimes. Cannot wait to wear shorts here. Jeans are bluenotes, missized hand-me-down from an Aunt. Flats are are Indigo by Clarks.

Maybe I do like this outfit posting thing. I'm not that great at putting together outfits, but maybe if I post them more I'll get better at it! Here's hoping...

Til next time!

31. I need to catch up.

I've supposedly posted this three times without realizing what buttons I'm pressing. I am not used to the new laptop yet, apparently. Still! I've had it a month after all. Instead of writing out paragraphs of what's going on, I'm doing this is point form. I have a lot on the go. First the outfits though, one of my last work days then travel outfit on the way back from NB. New clothes posts need to start soon, once I start wearing them. My wardrobe has taken a significant downturn since I stopped work. I no longer need to look presentable.

sweater - aero / cords - gap / tank - bluenotes

jacket - under armour / lace tank - samuel & co / tank - urban planet / jeans - gap.

-  it's the second week of classes tomorrow. I still have no books.
- I'm only now really recovered from drinking on Thursday. hangovers are not fun for me. therefore no outfit photos from the past few days.
- my parents were supposed to go home today. Mom did, took the puppy, and my Dad is still in. He's on dialysis now, peritoneal, and it's not working right. off to the hospital with him tomorrow.
- we moved out some old crappy furniture from my shed and living room.
- and then boyfriend and I cleaned. that was not fun.
- my dog sheds like something fierce. she's going to linger here forever once she's gone. I could not remove all her fur from the carpet.
- I keep forgetting to participate in Project 52.
- had family supper thing yesterday at my Aunt's. we planned for 20, and had 9.
- birthdays always feel like they should be important but my expectations always get let down.
- speaking of, mine is tomorrow. I turn 21. I'm now legal in all countries.
- actually it's more like in a half hour. benefits of being the furthest point in North America; we get things first.
- that does not include spring however. it's still cold.

Yeah that's enough. I could continue complaining but I don't feel like it anymore. Hoping to get things back on track soon!

30. EBEW: Florals.

So another round of EBEW! I love florals even though there aren't enough of them in my wardrobe. Second day back to classes, on a nice day no less, deserved some bright colors. I'm pretty sure it's spring now. Almost certain. On a side note, I love the first picture. I'm terribly blonde now, and this shows it well in the sunlight. You likey?

old navy scarf / green cable sweater - ae / blue shirt under - f21 / jeans - bluenotes

I had a few fake flowers around the house, had to get them involved since it's not actually warm enough for real flowers yet. The laundry on the line makes me so happy. My mother uses clotheslines whenever possible. I am seeing lots of it lately and loving it!

Head on over to EBEW to see more floral inspiration! I love seeing how everyone interprets it. It perks my creativity and my shopping habit. Maybe the second one's not such a good thing...

29. First day of the semester.

Spring semester. I'm spending my summer in school, due to the compulsory schedule of my program. I dislike this very much. I have to constantly remind myself that I have less than 2 years left, and these are my last required courses. That helps...sometimes.

Since I've been away, I haven't done much outfit capturing. I didn't really tell anyone about the blog yet, still, but maybe soon. In honour of said vacation, here's a few snaps I got along the way. There are very few as I did lots of shopping but little picture taking.

28. A little vacation.

Hello all! I'm interrupting my slight hiatus to give an update. Easter Sunday was atypical for me, my parents were in town and I flew out of province! I flew into Halifax with an aunt of mine, P, to visit another aunt, D, for a little over a week.

We left Monday for Bangor and stayed a couple of nights, some serious shopping took place. Outlets and other American stores I can't get back home are so addictive and easy to spend money in (I'm looking at you, Express). I'm back in Moncton now, at D's house, for a few days. P left this morning so we're having a lazy day of things. 5 days straight of shopping can really do you in. Or in my case, fill my suitcase to the brink of stuffed. I wasn't completely done but I think I might have to be.

I think that's it for now. I have very few pictures from the trip, shopping isn't the best for photos sometimes. Especially when neither aunt is very sure using the DSLR. Hoping to get a few more pics before I leave, but no new outfit shots yet. It's packed in very tight and staying there til I reach NL again. I'll get back to regular posting by next Friday, as I'm still here til Wednesday. So many pretty clothes to show. If I can manage to get a few minutes in the next couple days I'll post my Project 52, not within the schedule but still done!

27. I think it's spring.

Finally another OOTD post. Blogger is not agreeing with me today so the formatting is probably off. I'm flying out tonight to NB to visit my aunt for a few days. Lots of shopping to be done! Maybe a haul post when I back...I will be going to H&M after all.

So this is an outfit from my last week of work! I think this was Wednesday. It was so nice. I got a chance to wear my pink trench from Old Navy. So bright and happy. Will definitely be wearing this lots during the summer.

trench - ON / cropped cardigan - stitches, 2007 / dress - samuel & co / belt - made by mom :) / flats - clarks

this one's just for fun. taking pictures in my driveway, pretty sure guy in mini was staring at the weird neighbour girl.

Here's a close-up. I'm caring less about the weird looks from people! Yay! I really love this dress, it's so simple and multifunctional. And it was on sale, and a gift. Always a good combination! Hoping to have another OOTD post up before I leave, blogging discreetly around family is not an easy task.

Fashion-Beauty Friend Friday: Spring Trends

As I began to write this post, I realized something: I am never up on trends.

I love style blogs and looking through magazines but I could not name a single trend for spring offhand (except florals, which doesn't really count because it's spring, duh). After some searching and some polyvore matching, I've found the best trends I am going to try to wear for the next four months! That is, if I ever see a temperature on the plus side again. We had one freak day earlier the week and today it's snowing again. I fear a prolonged winter. I don't want more cold.

Aren't they all dreamy? From top right;
  • Sheer Layers
  • Citrus colors
  • LBD
  • Florals
  • Lady-like/ballerina
That last skirt needs to be mine. I'm seriously loving pink right now but I think a bright blue dress would also be a lovely addition to my closet. I can't wait for summer and it's light fabrics and warm temperatures. Off to dream of beaches! Head over to Modly Chic to see everyone else's take on spring!

11. EBEW: Polka Dots!

I just about wrote polka spots in the title. Off day much?

Here's my story about the polka dots challenge: after careful consideration of my closet, I realized I had none. (I am an idiot, there were three polka-dotted things in there). I decided to venture out to my local shopping centers, because I am difficult and must look everywhere there is to find things. I'd already looked online but wasn't satisfied with just seeing one option.
I began at Old Navy. There were sales on, meaning I must be having a good day and of course I would find what I was looking for. I didn't. I found a couple of really cute shirts and a trench, but in my search for dots  found two super cute options that were not available in my size. These two below, from oldnavy.com

So, the dots. The cardigan was there, but in mint green with dots which doesn't work with my pale. And the gingham was there in a pink with dots, I swear, but there are no pictures of it anywhere! I'm doubting my sanity. So Old Navy was a bust.

I decided to try again the next day, after work. I found what I was looking for this time, but I didn't wear it today for fear of looking gigantic (it's flouncy around the hips). Didn't do a try on in ideal conditions so I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the shirt. If I do it'll probably be worn later this week so I'll post it on Sunday in my usual round-up. Anyways, luckily I looked through the closet again and found my go-to bright and happy skirt/dress. Here's the final outfit!

dotted dress as skirt - h&m / black shirt - f21 / yellow tank - bluenotes / leggings - dynamite / booties - naturalizer / belt unknown

So, I didn't really manage to get polka dots as such, they're not uniform but I did get dots. And I got a few compliments on my dress/skirt. I've worn it like this a couple times and I just love it. The skirt is actually really swingy and full, but the intense wind (as seen whipping my hair around) made it stick to me. This skirt will be having a wide rotation this summer, so I'll show it off more then.

Can't wait to participate in another EBEW challenge/event!

Til next time!

10. Spring like temperatures ahead.

I am seriously hoping this spring thing keeps up. It was warmer, still in the minus all weekend, but just so nice to not have to bundle up ridiculously. I, being the fool that I am, ventured out to the windiest and coldest places there are to takes OOTD pictures. Two days in a row, and again today! Yesterday was spa day, massages for me and the boy. I was all comfy cozy so I wasn't so polished.

Loving that today is plus 5. Plus 5! That's such a nice welcome. I feel like a light jacket or sweater is all I'd need. Lovely feeling, I must say. I headed out yesterday and today looking for my EBEW purchases, didn't find anything at Old Navy but caught some awesome sales. Got my polka dots at Dynamite, can't wait to show them off! Won't be til the evening sadly, work comes before blog (sometimes). Enough of me rambling, here's my outfits! I actually edited them too, this was a labour intensive post.

black button up & blue scoop neck shirt - f21 / straight leg jeans - gap / booties - naturalizer (on sale) / belt from another dress

purple top - h&m / black dress as skirt - f21 / leggings - dynamite / boots - payless / scarf - gifted / belt - unknown?

white ls - ON / anthropologie skirt - bought online / tights - walmart / flats - ae by payless

I love my camera so much. The quality is just so much better than my point and shoot, or my Blackberry (obviously). I know it's happy I'm using it, and I'm so happy to have the boy home to help me. I've got my tripod now so I'm going to try to keep taking pictures most days.

I almost posted these showing my face but I'm still not sure if I want to. I made faces and I think the pictures look cute, but I'm still wary on showing myself on my blog! I was about a minute from telling my boy that I had one, he didn't even ask when he saw me editing the pictures and no questions on why I want my picture taken of my outfit. Bless his heart.

I'm off to get ready for a bbq! Yay! So happy that it's warm enough to reasonably barbeque. Spring is definitely on it's way.

Til next time!

8. I love lazy Sundays.

Don't you love it when you can feel spring coming? I know I talk about the weather too much but today needs to be talked about. It rained like crazy yesterday, the wind was so strong it nearly blew me off my feet. But today, it looks like spring. It's sunny and probably chilly but not ridiculously cold. I can't wait for it to be warm.

I've decided to try to do OOTD recaps every Sunday/Monday. I'm taking pictures of my outfits most days, except when I think they're not up to par. That happens sometimes, I get lazy and stop accessorizing. I realize now how important that can be!

black Tommy cardigan / ss lace tee - samuel & co / green racer-back tank - garage / mexx suit pants

green wrap sweater - bluenotes / blue graphic tee - old navy / yellow tank - bluenotes / black pants - eclipse

I wear a lot of green. The first outfit is from earlier in the term, same as in my header. I loooove the lace shirt. I've worn it that way a couple times but I'm actually proud of my remixing abilities, I've worn it backwards too. I actually think it looks better that way. There's pearls on top too, but you can't see.

The second is from this week. Work appropriate but sooo comfy. Layered tees for a bit of contrast and a sweater on top, of course. My building/office space is so cold. The dress pants I have on are from 2007, at least. Maybe earlier. I love having old clothes that can serve a new purpose.

I want to thank everyone for all the wonderful tips I've gotten! I now have a list on my BB of post ideas, and there's a lot. I'm getting inspiration from many many other blogs, obviously will credit if I end up taking direct ideas from them, Also a big thank you to my followers! I am so excited to have you guys reading my little blog! I squee'd with excitement (it was embarassing, I'm glad no one heard). If there's anything you guys think I should post on or any suggestions about layout or design, feel free to send them on! I'm always looking for ways to improve. And yay to 200 page views! That actually surprised me so much, I'm so honoured to know people are actually taking the time to read what I write. I think I'm really gonna like this blogging thing after all :)

Til next time!
